Anthropic Merges Claude Chat and Cowork, and Claude Code Gains New Beta Features

Anthropic announced on 16 September 2026 that Claude Cowork and chat are becoming one Claude, dropping the product from three front doors to two and shipping Claude Docs, Claude Slides and Claude Design in beta on paid plans. Existing Cowork tasks, projects, connectors, skills and artifacts carry over, but GitHub context, conversation branching and search across older tasks do not work yet, and the migration is one-way. Claude Code stayed out of the merge entirely, while shipping 27 new capabilities of its own across versions 2.1.271 to 2.1.274.
