Apple Watch’s New AI Features Are Normalizing the Idea That Technology Is Always Listening
Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 add Audio Intelligence: Sound Recognition, Shazam, Live Rewind and Siri Recap. Apple’s privacy paper shows careful engineering, with no audio recordings, a hardware-isolated Secure Exclave, no speaker identification and summaries deleted after seven days. It also shows the gap TechCrunch called normalising always-listening technology: Live Rewind chimes and lights a microphone indicator, while Siri Recap, the feature that runs in the background, gives people nearby no audible signal.
