The Siri AI settlement claims portal opened on 21 September 2026, which means roughly 37 million American iPhone owners can now ask Apple for money because a feature it advertised in 2024 did not arrive until this month. The presumptive payment is $25 per eligible device. The ceiling is $95. The deadline is 21 December 2026, and a claim that misses it is simply gone.

The timing is almost too neat. Apple’s rebuilt assistant finally shipped with iOS 27 on 14 September, still labelled beta and still behind a waitlist — and one week later the company opened a claims process to compensate people for the years it was not there. The Siri AI settlement is the financial epilogue to the longest-running broken promise in recent consumer technology.

This article covers exactly who qualifies, what you need to file, what the payment will realistically be, the arithmetic that determines whether it lands nearer $25 or nearer $95, the court timetable that decides when money actually moves, and what Apple has and has not admitted. If you bought an eligible iPhone in the relevant window, the whole process takes a few minutes and there is no reason not to do it.

What the Siri AI Settlement Is Actually For

The case is narrower than “Apple’s AI was disappointing”, and the narrowness matters for who can claim.

The advertised features behind the Siri AI settlement

Apple demonstrated a personalised, context-aware Siri at WWDC in June 2024 — an assistant that would understand your personal context and what was on your screen. Those capabilities were then promoted around the iPhone 16 launch in September 2024. In March 2025 Apple postponed the rollout, and the class action followed.

The legal claim at the heart of the Siri AI settlement

The suit alleges Apple deceived customers by marketing enhanced Siri features that did not yet exist, leading people to buy iPhones on the strength of advertising for software that had not shipped. It was filed in the US District Court for the Northern District of California as case 5:25-cv-02668, by the Clarkson Law Firm.

What Apple agreed to pay

Apple agreed in May 2026 to pay $250 million to resolve it, while denying the allegations. An Apple spokesperson said the company “resolved this matter to stay focused on doing what we do best, delivering the most innovative products and services to our users.” No admission of wrongdoing forms part of the Siri AI settlement.

Why the settlement is per-device, not per-person

The Siri AI settlement pays on eligible devices rather than on people, which is the right structure given the claim: the alleged harm was paying for a specific handset on the strength of a specific advertised feature. Someone who bought two qualifying iPhones in the window has two claims.

Who Qualifies for the Siri AI Settlement

Three conditions have to hold together, and all three are strict.

The Siri AI settlement covers US residents who bought in the US

The Siri AI settlement covers people who reside in the United States and who purchased an eligible iPhone in the United States for purposes other than resale. Buyers outside the US are not covered regardless of which model they own.

The Siri AI settlement device list is short

Seven models qualify: iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16, iPhone 16e, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. The standard iPhone 15 and 15 Plus are not on the list, which reflects the Apple Intelligence hardware requirement rather than an oversight.

The qualifying purchase window is 292 days

The purchase must have fallen between 10 June 2024 and 29 March 2025 — a window of 292 days that opens the day of the WWDC 2024 keynote and closes shortly after Apple confirmed the delay. That framing is deliberate: it covers the period when the advertising was live and the feature was not.

How to File a Siri AI Settlement Claim

The process is short, and the failure modes are administrative rather than legal.

The official Siri AI settlement claims site

Claims are filed at smartphoneaisettlement.com, the official portal run by Verita Global as settlement administrator. Anything asking for a fee to file a Siri AI settlement claim on your behalf is not the official process — court-approved claims processes do not charge claimants.

What the Siri AI settlement claim form asks for

The claim form asks for your contact information and the eligible iPhone’s serial number. Where the serial number is not to hand, the alternative is the Apple Account email address and phone number associated with the device.

Where to find the serial number

On the device itself the serial number sits in Settings → General → About. If you no longer have the phone, it also appears on the original packaging, on the purchase receipt, and in the device list attached to your Apple Account.

What gets a Siri AI settlement claim rejected

The settlement site is direct about this: if your claim form is incomplete, contains false information, or is not submitted by the deadline, the claim will be rejected. There is no partial credit for a nearly complete form, and no appeal for a late one.

What the Siri AI Settlement Will Actually Pay

siri ai settlement claims apple 250 million e large key lying flat with a round bow

The headline range of $25 to $95 is real, but it is determined by something you cannot influence: how many other people file.

The presumptive Siri AI settlement figure is $25

Class members who submit approved claims on time receive a presumptive per-device payment of $25. That figure can decrease or increase, up to a maximum of $95 per device, depending on the total number of valid claims and other factors.

The arithmetic that sets the Siri AI settlement number

The mechanics are simple division. A $250 million fund at $25 per device covers 10 million claims. At $95 per device it covers about 2.63 million. Against an estimated class of roughly 37 million iPhone owners, those two figures correspond to claim rates of about 27% and 7.1% respectively.

Claims the $250m fund supports at each payment level, against an estimated class of 37 million
At $25 per device — $250m ÷ 25 = 10.0m claims, about 27% of the class
At $50 per device — $250m ÷ 50 = 5.0m claims, about 13.5% of the class
At $95 per device — $250m ÷ 95 = 2.63m claims, about 7.1% of the class
If every eligible device claimed — $250m ÷ 37m = $6.76 each

Why the real figure will be lower than the division suggests

That arithmetic uses the gross fund. Legal fees and administration costs come out of the same $250 million before anyone is paid, so the number of claims each payment level actually supports is smaller than the raw division implies. The $25 presumptive figure already embeds an assumption about all of this.

What history suggests about claim rates

Claim rates in consumer class actions of this kind are typically in the low single digits as a percentage of the class, which is why a presumptive $25 with a $95 ceiling is structurally plausible: the ceiling exists precisely because mass-notice settlements rarely reach anything like full participation. It also means filing is close to costless and the downside of not filing is total.

When the Siri AI Settlement Money Actually Arrives

Filing in September does not mean a payment in October, and the gap is longer than most people expect.

Final approval of the Siri AI settlement comes first

The court has to grant final approval before any money moves. That hearing is listed for 24 February 2027 in San Jose, before Judge Noël Wise, who granted preliminary approval on 17 July 2026. Reported hearing dates have varied across coverage, so the settlement site remains the authoritative source.

Then at least 60 days

Payouts begin at least 60 days after the final approval hearing. Taking the listed date, that puts the earliest realistic payments in late April 2027 — roughly seven months after the claims window opened.

Appeals can extend it further

Final approval is not always final in practice. Objections and appeals can delay a Siri AI settlement distribution well beyond the statutory minimum, which is the ordinary rhythm of class settlements rather than anything specific to this one.

Two windows that define the Siri AI settlement, measured in days
Qualifying purchase window, 10 Jun 2024 to 29 Mar 2025 — 292 days
Claim submission window, 21 Sep to 21 Dec 2026 — 91 days

What Apple Did and Did Not Concede

The Siri AI settlement is a resolution, not a finding, and the distinction is doing real work.

No admission of wrongdoing in the Siri AI settlement

Apple denies the allegations and admitted no wrongdoing as part of the agreement. Its public statement frames the payment as a way to stop spending attention on litigation rather than as an acknowledgement that the advertising misled anyone.

The plaintiffs’ framing

Clarkson Law Firm, which filed the original action, described the result as delivering timely relief to tens of millions of consumers nationwide. Both statements can be true at once, which is the ordinary shape of a negotiated settlement.

What the $250 million is worth in context

Set against Apple’s scale the Siri AI settlement sum is modest, and it was always likely to be. Its significance is precedential rather than financial: it prices the gap between demonstrating a feature and shipping it, at a moment when the entire industry is advertising capabilities on the strength of a keynote.

Why the timing matters more than the amount

Apple shipped the assistant one week before opening the claims process. That sequencing means the company is compensating buyers for a delay it has just ended — the strongest available signal that the two events were being managed as one story.

What the Siri AI Settlement Means for AI Marketing

This is the part that matters to anyone outside the US class.

Announced capability is now a legal exposure

The case turns on the distance between a demonstration and a shipped feature. Every vendor previewing AI capability on a stage is now looking at a $250 million data point about what that distance can cost when it is attached to a hardware purchase.

The features in question were never trivial

It is worth remembering what was promised: an assistant that could reason over your own mail, messages and screen. The natural language processing that handles a simple spoken command has been solved for years; what Apple demonstrated in 2024 was the much harder layer above it, and that is what took two more years.

Disclosure language is changing already

The version that shipped in iOS 27 carries a beta label, staged availability, regional exclusions and daily usage limits — a considerably more hedged presentation than the 2024 demonstration. That is what a company looks like after a false-advertising settlement.

It joins a widening body of AI litigation

The Siri AI settlement sits alongside a growing set of cases testing how AI claims and AI practices hold up in court, including the publisher litigation we covered in the New York Times case against Microsoft and OpenAI. The common thread is that AI promises are now being read as representations with consequences.

Do Not Confuse This With the Other Apple Siri Settlement

A great deal of confused search traffic is about to land on the wrong page, because Apple has settled two separate Siri cases within two years and the numbers are easy to mix up.

The $95 million case was about privacy, not advertising

Lopez v. Apple, filed in 2019, alleged that Siri recorded private conversations after unintended activations, without a “Hey Siri” trigger or a button press, and that some recordings were shared with third parties. Apple agreed to pay $95 million to resolve it, denying wrongdoing there too.

Different class, different devices, different money

That earlier case covered owners of any Siri-enabled device — iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac, HomePod, iPod touch or Apple TV — that experienced an unintended activation during a private conversation between 17 September 2014 and 31 December 2024. It paid up to $20 per device across a maximum of five devices, and its claim deadline passed on 2 July 2025.

Why the distinction matters now

If you filed in that case, you have not filed in this one. The Siri AI settlement is a different action with a different class definition, a different fund and a live deadline, and eligibility in one has no bearing on eligibility in the other.

Two settlements, one assistant

Taken together the two cases describe the assistant’s decade rather neatly: Apple paid $95 million over what Siri heard when it should not have been listening, and $250 million over what Siri could not do after being advertised as able to. The Siri AI settlement is the second of those, and the larger.

Questions the Siri AI Settlement Does Not Answer

For all the detail in the claims process, several obvious questions are left open, and it is worth naming them rather than assuming the paperwork covers everything.

Nobody outside the United States is covered

The class is defined by US residency and US purchase. The same advertising ran in other markets and the same delay applied there, but the Siri AI settlement does not extend to any of those buyers, and no parallel action has produced a comparable result elsewhere.

The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus are excluded

Two models sold new throughout the qualifying window are absent from the list, because they were never Apple Intelligence-capable. The logic is defensible — you cannot have been deprived of a feature your hardware could never run — but it means some buyers who saw the same advertising get nothing.

It does not price the waitlist

The Siri AI settlement compensates for a delay that ended on 14 September 2026. It says nothing about the fact that shipping day did not mean availability: the assistant arrived in beta, in one language, excluded in the EU, capped by daily usage limits and gated behind a queue. Whether that counts as delivery is not a question the settlement asks.

There is no undertaking about future claims

Nothing in the agreement commits Apple to changing how it demonstrates unreleased features. The $250 million buys the end of this case, not a standard for the next keynote — which is why the precedent value depends entirely on whether other litigants use it.

Practical Notes Before You File

A few things worth getting right, because the claim window closes once and does not reopen.

File one Siri AI settlement claim per eligible device

If you bought more than one qualifying iPhone in the window, each device is a separate claim, and each needs its own serial number or account details.

Do not guess at the serial number

An incomplete or incorrect form is a rejected form. If the device is long gone, work from the original receipt, the box, or your Apple Account device list rather than estimating.

Ignore anyone offering to file for you

There is no fee to file a Siri AI settlement claim and no advantage to using a third party. Services charging a percentage of a court-administered payout are taking a cut of money you would receive anyway.

Check what you actually got in the end

If you are claiming, it is worth knowing what finally shipped: we went through the delivered feature set in our Siri AI feature tour, and the developer-side consequences in our guide to the SiriKit deprecation.
