Claude Academy course pages now describe twenty-six structured courses carrying 415 lessons, 44 quizzes and 79.25 hours of stated teaching time. That is the number you get by opening every course page and adding up what each one declares. It is not the number you get from the catalogue’s own index, which advertises roughly fifty hours across seventeen courses and quietly omits the duration and the completion badge for the other nine.
The gap matters because the index page is where a training plan starts. A manager sizing up Anthropic’s free learning platform will read the Claude Academy course list, total the hours they can see, and conclude the curriculum is about half a working week. It is closer to two. Nine courses in the AI Fluency family appear on the index with a lesson count and nothing else, yet each of their own pages states a duration and eight of the nine award a completion badge.
We counted the catalogue on 8 September 2026 by pulling the platform’s sitemap, enumerating every course, tutorial and use-case URL, then fetching all twenty-six Claude Academy course pages and reading the figures each one publishes. Our AI models and tools hub tracks releases like this, and we covered the platform’s arrival on a major directory when Claude Academy was listed on AIxploria a fortnight after launch. This article does the arithmetic that listing could not: what is actually in the catalogue, what a badge certifies, and which account your team should be signed in to before anyone enrols.

What the Claude Academy Course Catalogue Contains Today
The platform organises itself into three resource types. Courses are the structured, multi-lesson tracks with quizzes and badges. Tutorials are short single-topic guides. Use cases are worked examples filed by department.
Twenty-six Claude Academy courses, 415 lessons and 44 quizzes
The sitemap enumerates 774 URLs. Of those, 26 are course landing pages and 459 are the lesson and quiz pages beneath them. Reading the twenty-six Claude Academy course pages gives 415 lessons plus 44 quizzes, which is exactly 459 — so the sitemap and the published counts agree with each other, and neither is an estimate.
How we counted the Claude Academy course pages
Each Claude Academy course page states its lesson count, quiz count, estimated duration and whether it issues a completion badge. We took those four figures verbatim from all twenty-six pages. Durations quoted in minutes were converted to hours for the totals. Where this article gives a percentage or a subtotal, it is our arithmetic on those published figures, and we say so.

The Course Index Page Hides 29 Hours of Teaching
The single most useful thing we found is not in any course. It is in the way the catalogue lists its Claude Academy courses.
Nine Claude Academy courses appear stripped of their metadata
The index groups courses under five headings. Four of those headings show each Claude Academy course with lessons, quizzes, a duration and a badge marker. The fifth, “AI Fluency, for your world”, shows nine courses with a lesson count and a quiz count only. No hours. No badge marker. Open any one of those nine and the missing figures are right there in the header.
What the omission costs a training plan
Adding the durations the index displays gives 50.5 hours across seventeen courses. Adding the durations the nine hidden courses publish on their own pages gives another 28.75 hours. That is 36.3 per cent of the entire curriculum invisible to anyone planning a Claude Academy course rota from the list, and eight of the platform’s twenty-two completion badges with it.
The AI Fluency family is the largest block of hours
Counted properly, the ten AI Fluency courses total 32.75 hours, which is more teaching time than the three API courses combined. From the index alone, the family looks like 8.25 hours. This is the opposite of the impression the catalogue gives, and it is the reason a Claude Academy course plan built from the index page will misallocate the non-technical half of a team.
Three Claude Academy Courses Hold Half the Lessons
The lesson count tells a different story from the hours, and both are worth knowing before anyone commits a week to this.
The API trio, counted
Building with the Claude API, Claude with Amazon Bedrock and Claude with Google Cloud’s Vertex AI carry 198 of the 415 lessons between them. That is 47.7 per cent of every lesson on the platform in three courses out of twenty-six. They also hold 25 of the 44 quizzes, or 56.8 per cent.
One curriculum, three clouds
The three are near-identical in shape: 67, 65 and 66 lessons, 9, 8 and 8.5 hours. These three Claude Academy courses teach the same ground — prompting, tool use, retrieval, agents, the Model Context Protocol and production patterns — against three different endpoints. This is a sensible thing for a vendor to publish and a misleading thing to count, because a catalogue that looks enormous is substantially one course delivered three ways.
Read one, skim the others
Nobody needs all three. Pick the one matching where your workloads run and treat the other two as reference. Doing that removes roughly 17 hours and 130 lessons from the apparent size of the Claude Academy course catalogue, and it is the single largest saving available on any Claude Academy course plan.

Lesson Counts Are a Bad Proxy for Time
If you take one planning rule from this article, take this one: never size a Claude Academy course by its lesson count.
A nine-fold spread in minutes per lesson
Dividing each Claude Academy course’s stated hours by its lesson count gives a range from 4.3 minutes per lesson on The AI-Native SDLC Playbook to 38.6 minutes on Teaching AI Fluency. That is close to a nine-fold spread across the same catalogue. The API courses average about eight minutes a lesson; the AI Fluency courses run three to five times longer, because their lessons carry exercises and reflection rather than a code sample.
Plan a Claude Academy course from hours, not lesson counts
A fourteen-lesson course can be one hour and a five-lesson course can be three. The AI-Native SDLC Playbook and AI Fluency: Framework & Foundations both have fourteen lessons; one is an hour, the other is four. Any rota built on lesson counts will be wrong by a factor of four somewhere.
What a Claude Academy Course Badge Actually Certifies
Twenty-two of the twenty-six Claude Academy courses award a completion badge, which the platform also calls a certificate of completion. It is worth being precise about what earns one.
Quizzes, not lessons
Badges are issued for passing a Claude Academy course’s quizzes — every lesson quiz plus the final assessment where one exists — not for working through the lessons. The FAQ is explicit that finishing every lesson does not produce a badge if a quiz is outstanding, and that the badge is issued the moment the last required quiz is passed, before any feedback step.
Four Claude Academy courses cannot issue a badge
The four Claude Academy courses with no badge are exactly the four with no quiz: The AI-Native SDLC Playbook, Introduction to Agent Skills, AI Fluency for pK-12 Train the Trainer and Introduction to Subagents. The rule is mechanical, so a Claude Academy course’s badge status is predictable from its quiz count alone. Those four are still worth reading; they simply leave no record behind.
Unlimited retakes, no expiry
There is no retake limit and no lockout timer, and a failed attempt never counts against you. Badges do not expire, no re-certification is required when new Claude versions ship, and a course update never revokes a badge already earned. Each badge carries a public verification link that survives a name change, which makes it usable on a profile or a bid document.
The Paid Exam Is Not a Claude Academy Course Certificate
This is the distinction most likely to cause an awkward conversation with a client or a procurement team, and the platform’s own FAQ addresses it directly.
Two programmes, two issuers
The free certificates of completion are earned by passing quizzes on the Academy site and are issued by the Academy. The Claude certification exams are a separate paid, proctored programme: the exams are delivered by Pearson and the credential is issued through Credly. They are not the same credential and they do not substitute for each other.
Who can sit the proctored exam
The exam programme is available to Anthropic partners through the partner Skilljar site. If your organisation is not in the partner programme, the free completion badges are the only credential the platform offers you, and describing one as a certification would be a stretch.

The Account Choice That Strands Your Team's Records
Everything above is about content. This section is about the one operational decision that is expensive to reverse, and it needs making before the first person enrols.
Academy follows the Claude account
Signing in uses your Claude account: the site sends you to claude.ai, you authorise, and you are back. The learning record attaches to whichever Claude account — and whichever organisation inside it — was active at the moment you authorised. Sign in with a personal account and the enrolments are recorded there.
There is no merge and no transfer
Enrolments and progress made on a personal account stay on that account. The platform states plainly that it cannot move them between accounts, does not support merging accounts across different email addresses, and offers no transfer when someone changes employer. A team that starts on personal logins cannot be consolidated later.
Set the sign-in rule before the first enrolment
The fix costs nothing on day one and is impossible on day ninety. Tell people to sign out of claude.ai, sign back in through the company SSO, then authorise the Academy. If someone has already enrolled on a personal account, the only route to a company-attributed record is re-earning the badges on the company account.
What a Claude Academy Course Admin Can and Cannot See
Reporting is deliberately thin, and knowing the limits stops you promising a board something the platform will not deliver.
A deliberately limited report
Where people enrolled through a company Claude organisation, admins see which courses members enrolled in and their completion status. That is the whole report. On a personal Claude account, learning is not visible to any organisation at all.
What the limits rule out
Quiz scores, attempt counts and time spent are never exposed to an organisation. So the platform can answer “did they finish it” and cannot answer “how well did they do” or “how long did it take them”. Any competency evidence beyond completion has to come from your own assessment, not from a Claude Academy course record.

The Skilljar Migration Is Still Running
Anthropic’s previous learning platform ran on Skilljar, and the changeover is not finished. If anyone in your organisation trained there, this affects them.
Import matches on email alone
Skilljar progress does not carry over automatically. Where the email on a Claude account matches the Skilljar email, a banner offers to import the data, and that import is still rolling out to learners in stages. Where the emails differ, the options are to create a free Claude account on the Skilljar email or to re-earn the certificates on the account in daily use.
Partners stay on the old platform
Learners in the partner programme are told to keep using Skilljar for now, and domain allowlisting for partner access was not carried across. Certificates already earned on Skilljar remain valid and stay where they were issued; nothing on that system is changed or revoked by the move.
Beyond Courses: 120 Tutorials and 149 Use Cases
Claude Academy courses are the smallest of the three resource types by count. The sitemap census found 26 courses, 120 tutorials and 149 use cases — 295 resources in total, against the 289 the catalogue advertised at launch on 20 August 2026.
Tutorials are the short-format layer
Tutorials run from three to twenty minutes and are grouped by surface: Claude.ai, Claude Cowork, Claude Code, Claude Platform, AI Fluency, and a “more ways to use Claude” group covering Excel, PowerPoint, Chrome, Claude Tag, Claude Design and Claude Security. They are the right answer to a specific question and the wrong answer to “train my team”.
Use cases are filed by department
The 149 use cases are tagged across fourteen categories including Marketing, Product, Engineering, HR, Finance, Operations, Data, Design, Legal, Sales, Research and Education. Most are ten or fifteen minutes. For a non-technical team, a handful of department-tagged use cases after Claude 101 will do more than another course.
A Claude Academy Course Route Map by Role
Here is how we would spend the hours, given everything counted above. Each route names the Claude Academy courses and totals their stated time.
The everyday user route
Claude 101 then AI Fluency: Framework & Foundations, 6.5 hours together, followed by whichever department use cases match the person’s job. This is the route for finance, marketing, HR and operations staff who will never touch an API.
The developer route
Claude Code 101, Claude Code in Action, Introduction to Agent Skills and Introduction to Subagents come to 4.25 hours and cover the terminal workflow end to end. Add Introduction to Model Context Protocol for another hour if the team is wiring up tools.
The API engineer route
One of the three API courses — 8 to 9 hours depending on the cloud — plus Model Context Protocol: Advanced Topics at 1.5 hours. Skip the other two API courses entirely unless you genuinely run on more than one platform.
The rollout owner route
Deploying Claude Enterprise with Confidence at 2.5 hours, AI Capabilities and Limitations at 3.5, and Teaching AI Fluency at 4.5 if you intend to run internal sessions. That last one is among the nine the index page hides, which is precisely the wrong Claude Academy course to lose.

Where the Claude Academy Course Catalogue Falls Short
The platform is free, substantial and better organised than most vendor training. Three limitations are still worth stating.
The Claude Academy course index is the weakest link
A catalogue that under-reports its own size by 36 per cent is a presentation bug with planning consequences. Until it is fixed, open the individual pages of anything in the AI Fluency family before you decide it is a light extra.
No Claude Academy course has a practical assessment
Every Claude Academy course badge rests on multiple-choice quizzes. Nothing assesses whether someone can actually write a working prompt, review an agent’s output or spot a hallucination in their own domain. Treat a badge as evidence of attendance and comprehension, not capability.
Content ages with the products
Anthropic ships quickly, and the FAQ acknowledges that lessons can carry deprecated flags, inviting learners to report them. Badges are explicitly not revoked when a course updates, which is humane for the learner and means a two-year-old badge may certify a version of the product that no longer exists.

Are Claude Academy courses free?
Yes. The Claude Academy course catalogue is browsable without signing in, and a free Claude account is enough to save progress and earn completion badges. No paid plan and no work account are required, though a few features covered in lessons need a paid or Team plan to try hands-on.
