Symptom & Impact

Client LPAR sees Failed paths to vscsi adapters and I/O slows.

Environment & Reproduction

Dual-VIOS setup on AIX 7.2 client with one VIOS rebooted or upgraded.

Root Cause Analysis

MPIO path on the rebooted VIOS stays in Failed state after recovery.

Quick Triage

Run lspath on the client and look for Failed entries on vscsiN.

Step-by-Step Diagnosis

Confirm VIOS is up with cluster -list and lsmap -all on the VIOS.

Solution – Primary Fix

Re-enable the path on the client with chpath -l hdiskN -p vscsiN -s enable.

Solution – Alternative Approaches

Run cfgmgr on the client if the path was rediscovered after VIOS reboot.

Verification & Acceptance Criteria

lspath shows Enabled on all paths and iostat balances across both VIOS.
